About The Artist

Original Landscape Painting By Berrett Shuman Berrett Shuman is an American painter known for his landscapes, still lifes, wildlife, and figures. His light filled canvases. Raised in Idaho, Shuman began sketching and sculpting at a young age. He started his formal education at BYU-Idaho. After receiving his associates in Fine Art he transfered to Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. While in taking his formal classes Shuman knew he needed more instruction. Like his choices in schools he sought after the best instructors in his field. While at BYU-Idaho he spent his spare time in the studios of Galust Berian and Robert Moore. Robert would stress the importance of balancing the simple and complex in order to create visual poetry. Robert introduced Shuman to artists including Levitan, Timkov, and Edgar Payne. While attending Art Center Shuman studied with Dan McCaw and Joseph Mendez. "McCaw left a lasting impression on me telling me to paint from the heart and not the wrist." Shuman later decided to return to Idaho where he continues to paint. He is often painting in the high mountain meadows, or near the winding path of the snake river. Shuman has become a skilled interpreter of color harmonies, shape, and light. The heart of Shumans work is his heightened awarness for nature.
